Another difference lies in the high-temperature service capability. Stainless steel 304H is designed to operate in high-temperature environments, typically up to 900-1150°C (1652-2102°F). This extended temperature range surpasses the upper limit of regular stainless steel 304, typically recommended for use up to 550-600°C (1022-1112°F). Therefore, stainless steel 304H is more suitable for heat exchanger applications with higher temperatures.
The higher carbon content in stainless steel 304H can influence its welding characteristics. While stainless steel 304 is readily weldable using common methods, the increased carbon content of 304H can result in more pronounced sensitization to corrosion during welding.

A tube can be significantly smaller than it was originally. When cost is a factor, tube sinking is ideal.
